A groesome tragedy occured in Arizona where the 10-year-old Ame Deal was found dead after she had been locked inside a box as a punishment measure. The girl’s body was discovered in the box outside the house and the first conclusion was that she had suffocated. Cruel death!!! Phoenix police arrested 4 members of the family who are now charged with murder.

Initially the relatives told the police another story: that Ame allegedly played hide and seek with her friends and mistakenly hid inside the box and suffocated. However, the investigation revealed later that the kid was actually placed inside by her relatives as punishment.

Police found out that Ame suffered of unusual punishments such as forced to sleep on the shower floor, to swallow dog feces or to eat hot sauce for lying. Furthermore the investigators unveiled that the girl apparently had been locked in the box at least five time previously for misbehaving, and had been beaten with a wooden paddle. Terrible ordeal for the poor innocent girl.

It looks like unbelievable that such things happen in nowadays society. Her family should all be hanged against a wall for their crime.

After Ame’s death some neighbours said they knew it wasn’t an accident. So, practically everyone knew the situation but they just expected…to happen. As the CNN presenter said, many times our actions can make the difference in the life of a child, isn’t it?

Can you imagine to wake up in the morning and see your little town harbour occupied by a….gigantic iceberg?

That reminds me of Titanic sequences which I saw a few days ago. The impressive ice block made its appearance in Newfoundland’s Goose Cove in July.

“Icebergs float in from Greenland,” revealed Gene Patey who took some snapshots of the icy block. “This one quickly blocked the town’s harbor before breaking apart and melting,” however the fishermen tried their luck”, added Mr. Patey.

A mobile phone application that monitors the bribe across the globe sparked lot of laughs. On the bribery map, Romania seems to be the top leader or otherwise said – the navel of the earth, with most of corruption acts reported. The technology widget was invented by a Lithuanian and was spread around the world trying to convince people to report how much and when they gave bribes.

On the bribe world map, Romania is the hottest spot. A large red dot indicates that the Romanians claimed most of the corruption complaints. Over a hundred Romanians showed where and how they gave bribes. At a simple click, it can be seen that a Bucharest person paid a 15 euro bribe to do an ultrasound ecography. This is most likely a career path that most graduates from ultrasound technician schools would frown upon.

At another clinic in Bucharest, a Romanian claims he delivered a 400 euros bribe for his father’s surgery.

The developer of the application, a Lithuanian, had a similar experience. After giving hundreds of euros to a hospital for a surgery, the young man decided to tell the world what happened.

Before becoming a mobile application, bribespot.com or the “bribe point”, has claimed tens of thousands of visitors on the Internet. More and more people began to admit where and when they paid bribes. The application creator hopes that in future, his application will become a database for the police around the world.

The greatest danger for the application are the users playin hoaxes. For example, a Romanian said he gave 150 euros bribe in order to see Emil Boc leaving the Government

Ion Barladeanu posing with Angelina Jolie during a meeting in Paris on February 26, 2011

Romanian artist Ion Barladeanu revealed his misery life in an interview for the famous British broadcaster BBC. Despite the tragic nuance of the topic, Mr. Barladeanu proved a real sense of humor depicting his life history in a somewhat funny way which makes you smile (even if a litte bitter). (scroll down for Emmy winning ”World According to Ion B.” (embed) and the BBC interview (link)

Abroad he is regarded as one of the greatest Romanian contemporary artists but in his own country the man lives in the rabbish trash of a Bucharest apartment. Until 2008 none heard about Ion Barlandeanu, but now his collages are exhibited in the top art world in Paris and moreover he is known to the celebrities.

Ion Barladeanu has spent his life creating politically subversive collages by stealth, many as opposition to the Nicolae Ceausescu’s dictatorship . Ion has always believed in his art, in his collages which have an excellent cinematic quality. He says he considers himself as a ‘director’ of his collages, which he sees as being like films.

Ion B. described the first encounter with Angelina Jolie:
“I told also Angelina Jolie: Madame, I am the greatest director in the world” “How come?” she asked me. “Just like that” I said. “So, I gave her a catalog of my collages as a present.”
“To whom?” the BBC reporter asked.
Barladeanu continues: “To Mrs. Angelina Jolie, in Paris. That big American actress. Well, I said “big” but she is not big, she is only as tall as you or me”.

Ion B interview with BBC’s Tom Wilson

After many years in the shadow, the Romanian was discovered by the outer world and his art was the recent subject of an Emmy award-winning documentary, “The World According to Ion B”.

Internet Explorer users are dumb according to browsers IQ tests

Controversial study revealed that IE users have a lower IQ compared to users employing the other browsers. The stunning “discovery” was recently concluded following a study carried out by a canadian consultancy company!!! What would the difference be in using various browsers? Most of them do the same thing, the menus are pretty similar and most of the people use practically just a few options of a browser.

A study by a consulting company from Canada indicates that those who use other browsers to surf the Internet are more intelligent than those who use Internet Explorer, reports CNN.

The AptiQuant company monitored over 100,000 IQ tests, correlating the results with the browser used during the testing procedure.

The result showed that Internet Explorer users had worse results than the average, while those who used Chrome, Firefox or Safari had above average performances. Tests ran on those who use less popular browsers like Opera and Camino, or HTML5 versions of Internet Explorer delivered the best results.

Despite the large number of people tested, the results are however far away from the scientific standards. The range of test takers was self-selective: the people were not chosen on a scientifically-based ground (which would have given a comprehensive result), however it was just the random choice of the users who found the test from online ads or links from other pages.

The report motivates that folks using IE, the built-in browser for Windows OS, could be more resistant to change. But do the browsers change so much???
An identical study carried out in 2006 showed users on the then-current IE browser scored above average.

Internet Explorer is the world’s most spreadbrowser (43% share). Firefox follows it with just below 30%, and Google’s Chrome has 19% of shares.

Scientist Susan Greenfield warns about a imminent threat due to long exposure to social networking sites

It seems that a certain category of people have already migrated from the real world to the virtual one. Facebook and Twitter have led to a self-obsessed generation people, who feature reduced brain concentration capacity and a childish desire of receiving feed-back on everything that happens their lives, says UK scientist Baroness Susan Adele Greenfield in an interview for dailymail.

Specialized in brain psychology, Baroness Greenfield – professor of pharmacology at Oxford university and former member of the research body of the Britain’s Royal Institution -, says that Facebook or Twitter “friendship” along with computer games have the ability to change the way the brain thinks.

Chronic exposure to social networks make users with an “identity crisis” behave like an infant who requires the attention of the mother. For such people the real world is practically inexistent and everything what counts is what the others think about them. They want to feel like a kind of VPs admired by others every day.
“What worries me is the triviality of the things that are spread out on the social networks”.
‘Why would anyone be interested in what the other ate at breakfast? That reminds me of a little kid saying: “Look at me Mummy, I’m doing this”, “Look at me Mummy I’m doing that”, added the Baroness.

This situation leads to a reduced focussing ability, a need for instant praise and erosion of nonverbal abilities, such as the power to have eye contact while talking.
