Photo: NASA shows Moon trails and garbage from Apollo 12, 14 and 17 missions

NASA’s Lunar Reconaissance Orbiter took Moon photographs revealing the tracks and trash left behind by astronauts of Apollo’s 1969 and 1972 missions.

The pictures which are considered the finest and sharpest ever, were snapped in August 2011 when LRO orbited Earth’s natural satellite between 21 to 24 km above its surface.

“It’s absolutely amazing. We clearly see the astronauts trail. Even their backpacks are observed”, said the orbiter’s chief researcher Mark Robinson.
