Earthquake of 7.3 magnitude rocks Van city in eastern Turkey. Mayor: We need help!

A 7.3 magnitude earthquake occurred in eastern Turkey, according to the U.S. Institute of Geological Survey USGS. Dozens people have been reported dead in the area of Tabanli village – Van city.

The earthquake had occurred about 35 kilometers northeast of the city of Van. Turkish Kandilli Observatory reported a 6.6 magnitude earthquake that happened at 1.41 p.m. Turkey time.

According to the USGS the tremor which was later revised to 7.2 magnitude, had a depth or 7.2 kilometers but Turkey agencies reported a 5 km depth.

A mayor of a small town in eastern Turkey said that many people died: “There are so many dead. Some buildings collapsed, there is too much destruction. We need help, we need doctors!” said Mayor on public television.

State-based TRT television unveiled that about 45 people were killed and 150 wounded in the eastern town of Ercis, and 15 more lost their lives in the provincial center of Van.
