Former Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, would have had a wealth estimated at 200 billion dollars focused in investment assets located worldwide. Regarding this figure, it would mean that Muammar Gaddafi was the richest man in the world.

The most recent estimations reported by Los Angeles Times, shows that the libyan dictator would have gathered a large wealth during his 42 years in power, while an ordinary Libyan citizen earns about $12,000 per year.

Gaddafi’s portfolio has included everything from luxury hotels in London and Russia to Goldman Sachs shares and football teams in Italy.

However, it looked like all the money in the world did not help Gaddafi escape the fury of the rebels on Thursday when he was dragged from a tube and shot near his hometown of Sirte.

Several rebel sources said later that the Libyan leader was handling a solid gold gun when he was captured.

Experts say that Gaddafi’s wealth estimation will be completed in a few months. However, the first information revealed that across his 42 years ruling, Moammar Gadhafi has accumulated a fortune of 37 billion dollars invested in America, more than 30 billion dollars in Europe and China and, according to Libyan officials quoted by the Los Angeles Times, tens of billions in international business.

If these figures are correct, then obviously Gaddafi was by far the wealthiest man on Earth.
