What happened 30 years ago? Official statement of Hollywoon star’s death.
Natalie Wood died in the night of Nov. 29, 1981 after partying with her husband Robert Wagner and “Brainstorm” co-star Christopher Walken. The feast took place on the couple’s boat floating off Santa Catalina Island. Investigators said that actress’ death was just an accident and it was concluded that she had been drinking “too much” prior to her death. Despite that, many remained skeptical believing that the true was different.

The prosecutors thought that Mrs. Wood was “possibly trying to board the dinghy and had fallen into the Pacific, hitting her face.” That woud explain two dozen bruises found on her body.

The dinghy was found in a Catalina cove about 1 mile away from couple’s yacht “Splendor”, and Wood’s body was spotted floating lifeless 1 mile from the dinghy. She was dressed in a long nightgown, socks, and a jacket.

Natalie Wood aka Natasha Gurdin or Natalia Nikolaevna Zakharenko (after her Russian origins) revealed in a TV interview, that she was not a good swimmer and was mostly scared of dark seawater: “I’ve always been terrified, still am, of water – dark water or sea water, or river water or whatever”. Probably some of Natalie Wood’s most known words shortly before her death were: “You know what I want? I want yesterday.”

Dennis Davern started to reveal info in “Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendour,” a book he published along with his friend Marti Rulli in 2009. Davern was confident that Wood’s death was a directly linked to a fight with hubby Wagner. Futhermore Splendour’s captain blamed also the investigators for being uncapable to solve the case appropriately.

Wagner and Wood were often boating off Califoarnia’s coast and they asked Wood’s “Brainstorm” co-star, Christopher Walken, to join them on a sail on Thanksgiving in Nov. 1981. According to Hollywood gossip, Wagner was jealous over Walken.

Following the row, Wood headed to her stateroom, according to Davern’s 2010 interview for CNN. Christopher Walken also went to a guest room. However Robert Wagner pursued his wife to their room. A couple of minutes later, Davern heared the couple fighting.

Davern turned up the music and at a certain moment he watched on window and spotted Wagner and Wood on the yacht’s deck. “They had moved their battle outside … you could figure out that from their gestures they were having a quarrel,” he added.

Not long after, Wagner showed up and informed Davern he is not able to find Wood. Davern searched the yacht but was unsuccessful. He observed that the rubber dinghy also was gone.

He writes that after the scuffle with Walken, Wood left for her room while he and Walken calmed down on boat deck.
Subsequently he looked for Wood, but she was missing. He added that along with the captain checked the yacht and noticed the dinghy was not there. Then Wagner said he pressumed Wood had gone on the island alone.
He took contact with Catalina island’s restaurant where they’d had dinner and asked if anyone had seen Wood.
