The first Romanian satellite is ranked as a microsatellite and features the shape of a 10 cm-side cube weighing about one kilogram (scroll down for video).

Goliat aka Goliath, the first satellite developed by Romanian Space Agency (ROSA) will be lauched into Earth’s orbit by the European Space Agency (ESA) on February 9, 2012.

Goliat’s orbital placement will be carried out during the first flight of the new European Vega rocket which is scheduled to lift-off from a French Guyana base.

The satellite successfully passed the functional tests and is gonna be part of the payload along with seven other satellites.

Goliath – a cube-shaped satellite having a 10-cm side and weighing one kilogram – was designed and developed by ROSA in collaboration with the Institute of Space Sciences, between 2005 and 2007. Goliat mission focuses on educational and experimental research.
