Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke passed away on Thursday, just 9 days after she experienced a horrific crash at the end of the half-open superpipe during a workout in Utah (scroll down for video report).

29-year-old Burke, originating from Whistler, British Columbia, went into coma following severe wounds while training at the Park City Mountain resort.

According to a statement issued by her publicist on behalf of her family Sarah Burke sustained irreversible brain damage due to a lack of oxygen in the blood after a heart attack. She died at 9:22 a.m., in the presence of family and her husband Rory Bushfield.
