Dutch teenager Laura Dekker, 16, wrote on her blog that she is about to end on Saturday (Jan. 21, 2012) her record breaking sailing trip around the world, thus becoming the youngest person to accomplish such a journey.

Unfortunately the Dutch teen will not find her place officially in a book because Guinness World Records decided to abandon the category of “youngest” in its list of world records. Their motivation was that they do not want to encourage, discourage or support inappropriate record attempts by minors. Dekker aboard her yacht, Guppy, is scheduled to arrive this evening between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m GMT, at the Simpson Bay harbour on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten, which she left on 20 January 2011.
