The Sting star Dimitra Arliss died in L.A. on Jan. 26, 2012. She was 79

Dimitra Arliss, who starred in comedy “The Sting” along with Robert Redford and Paul Newman, has passed away at the age of 79 in Los Angeles.

According to a Motion Picture spokesperson, Arliss died on 26 January at the Woodland Hills medical center of complications from a stroke.

Arliss who was born on Oct. 23, 1932 in Ohio, started her stage career at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago. On Broadway, Arliss starred opposite Stacy Keach in “Indians” and with Kevin Kline and John Malkovich in “Arms and the Man.”

Following the “hit lady” appearance in the 1973 “The Sting,” she was subsequently seen in “Xanadu,” starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly, and in Clint Eastwood’s “Firefox.”

She featured also in dozens television series such as “Dallas,” ”Quincy M.E.,” and “Rich Man, Poor Man.”
Dimitra Arliss is survived by a sister.
