All games in Serie A and Serie B have been suspended by the Italian Football Federation as Livorno midfielder Piermario Morosini died after suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch. Morosini, a former member of Italy’s youth team, who was borrowed from Udinese in Livorno, collapsed on the ground in the 31st minute of the match when Livorno was leading 2-0.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, when the player collapsed, he was not into the possession of the ball and no opponent was near him. He began to shake and then fell on the ground, but tried to get up twice. Italian Journal claims that an ambulance was blocked on its way to the field by another car which was parked at the entrance of the stadium. Medical staff tried to resuscitate him, but the 25-year-old player died on the way to hospital. Morosini had part of a life of tragedy, both his parents died when he was young, and one of his brothers committed suicide.
