World’s largest digital photograph has 272 gigapixels and features, in every detail, part of the city of Shanghai.

The photo which is called “Shanghai 272 Gigapixel Panorama”, was constructed by Alfred Zhao in 2010, it consists of no less than 12,000 photos merged together and allows the viewer to “spy” every detail.

The magnificent picture can be admired HERE.

Usually the largest photographs are obtained by stitching dozens of smaller images. However, The Legacy Project photo made in Irvine, California is excepted from the rule because it was taken as a single exposure on a perfectly smooth piece of sensitized fabric using a jet hangar as a gigantic camera.
