The final of the 200-meter backstroke swimming race delivered a new Olympic champion: Tyler Clary of the United States.
The title was disputed on the last 50 meter heat between Americans Tyler and Lochte and the Japanese swimmer Ryosuke Irie.
200 m backstroke Olympic record broken!!!
Tyler Clary swam the 200m distance in 1:53.41, not only claiming the gold medal but breaking also the Olympic record, as his time surpassed the previous mark of 1:53.94.
Ryosuke Irie finished in 1:53.78, while Lochte in 1:53.94.
