Top Gun director Tony Scott dies after jumping off L.A. bridge

Director and producer Tony Scott, mostly known for his connection with the ‘Top Gun’ movie, took his own life after leaping off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro without hesitation, according to those who witnessed the tragedy.

Scott, 68, plunged to his death from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro on Sunday afternoon.

His body was recovered from the water by L.A. Port Police, the first to arrive at the suicide spot.

Witnesses revealed that Sunday at noon, around 12:30 p.m., Scott stopped and parked his Toyota Prius on the bridge, before getting off the vehicle. Then he climbed the about 3 meter high protection fence and and jumped off without hesitating.

Investigators inspected the car and found out that it belonged to the famous action-movie British producer and director. A contact information list was discovered inside and a suicide note was later found in his office. So far, not much is known of its contents or the reason behind the suicide.

The coroner’s office identified Tony Scott on Sunday evening.

Besides Top Gun, Scott made also “Man on Fire,” “Enemy of the State” and “Beverly Hills Cop II.”

The last movie he directed was the 2012 “Unstoppable,” a film about a runaway freight train.
