Many flights departing from Amsterdam’s International Airport Schiphol and linked to cities along the eastern coast of the United States were canceled on Monday due to fears sparked by the rage of hurricane Sandy.

Dutch authorities at Schiphol airport warned travelers there will be flight delays and cancellations and advised people to check with their air companies for the latest announcements.

Dutch airline KLM grounded so far more than 10 flights to and from New York and Washington. Sky team partner Delta Airlines urged passengers to stay up-to-date as many of their flights are likely to be cancelled or postponed too.
