Dutch police arrested fourth suspect in Richard Nieuwenhuizen referee death case

Dutch police announced the arrest of another teenager believed to have been involved in the amateur football match incident is which referee Richard Nieuwenhuizen was killed.

If found guilty, the two teenagers of 15 years will serve a sentence of maximum 1 year in a juveniles prison.
The other two suspects, aged 16, will receive a sentence of more than 2 years if found guilty. There is the possibility that they may be tried as adults, where convictions are more severe.

41-year-old Richard Nieuwenhuizen died Monday in hospital after being beaten during the amateur soccer game between Buitenboys Almere and Nieuw Sloten Amsterdam.

The attackers were players of the Amsterdam-based team which, following the incident, announced that they withdraw from any competition.

Nieuwenhuizen’s death prompted the Dutch federation to cancel all 33,000 amateur matches scheduled at weekends, while professional competitions will hold a minute of silence and players will wear black armbands.
