Aliaa Magda Elmahdy Kidnapped in Egypt in 2011 now lives in Sweden, reveals Femen

Egyptian student, blogger and activist Aliaa Magda Elmahdy sparked ire in her native country last year because she posted controversial racy pictures of herself in various states of undress on her own blog as well as Facebook page.

A source close to the women rights group Femen says that Elmahdy was apparently kidnapped in Egypt in 2011 after uploading her nude pictures but she is currently fine and safe as she lives on exile in Sweden.

Alia al-Mahdi, who participated in a nude protest Stockholm alongside other females in retaliation to the much debated Egyptian constitution, became a member of the feminist radical Femen about 2 weeks ago and is impossible for her to return to Egypt.

“Aliaa’s kidnapping took place in Egypt last year and she is now in Sweden on asylum, but continuously supervised by various security forces,” the source said in an interview for Al Arabiya.

Anti-Islamist female activist Aliaa Elmahdy stirred scandal in the Arab region as she posed nude with the message “Sharia is not a constitution” and uploaded the pictures on the Internet.

She became the symbol and voice of the Egyptian activists fighting against sexual discrimination and wishing to make changes in their country.

Her Stockholm demonstration upset various Egyptian officials who called the protest as obscene.
