Romanian Movie Child’s Pose won Golden Bear Prize at Berlin International Film Festival 2013

Director Calin Peter Netzer and producer Ada Solomon received the award from the legendary filmmaker Wong Kar Wai, chairman of the jury of this year’s event.

The jury of the official contest at the International Film Festival in Berlin (February 7 – 17, 2013) had the following members: Wong Kar Wai (Chairman), Susanne Bier, Tim Robbins, Shirin Neshat, Athina Rachel Tsangari, Andreas Dresen and Ellen Kuras.

After picking up the coveted Golden Bear trophy on stage, Romanian director Calin Peter Netzer said: “I’ll try to say something, although I am speechless. I would like to thank Berlinale for inviting us here, I’d like to thank festival director Dieter Kosslick, but also Razvan Radulescu, the screenplay co-writer of this film “.

Child’s Pose was the big winner at the Berlin Film Festival, 2013 edition

He noted that “Child’s Pose” (“Pozitia Copilului” in Romanian language) had an “exceptional” welcome from the press worldwide. “The international media was very flattering,” said Calin Netzer.

Netzer revealed that the movie has already been sold in many countries including Germany, France, Italy, Greece, UK, USA and Taiwan.

In turn, “Child’s Pose” producer Ada Solomon said: “I’m more used to being a warrior than winning a prize. I wish to thank our lead role actress, Luminita Gheorghiu, who has a significant contribution to this award. Of course, I thank Calin Peter Netzer who made this film.”

Berlinale, is one of the world’s leading film festivals and most reputable media events. Inaugurated in West Berlin back in 1951 by U.S. Film officer Oscar Martay, the festival has been celebrated yearly in February ever since 1978. With about 300,000 tickets sold and 500,000 admissions, Berlinale is seen as world’s biggest publicly attended film festival based on actual attendance rates (Wikipedia).
