The technique described by Canavero is similar to that used by Robert White, who in 1970 successfully transplanted the head of a rhesus monkeys on the body of another. Proceeding as fast as possible, surgeons must remove both heads at the same time and then connect the “good one” to the circulatory system of the donor body.
