The jet which operated Flight 214 from Seoul’s Incheon International Airport, was carrying 291 passengers and 12 crew members and caught fire at San Francisco (SFO) Airport after a failed landing procedure Saturday afternoon, according to Federal Aviation Authority (FAA).

The plane unveiled signs of troubles immediately after touching down as white smoke was seen rising. “I heard a pop and I quickly saw a large, brief fireball that emerged from underneath the aircraft. It began to cartwheel,” an eye-witness told CNN.

According to another witness, Kristina Stapchuck, shortly after Flight 214 touched the runway, “it seemed like the tires slipped a little bit and it rocked back”.

Parts of the aircraft started to break off before spinning. “Everything happened suddenly,” said Stapchuck.

Boeing 777 is a long-range aircraft that can carry between 246 and 300 passengers, according to the website of the company Asiana Airlines.
