Ousted President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych tried to bribe the border guards from Donetsk custom, for having his jet let take off, said a spokesman for the Ukrainian Border Police (Scroll For Videos).

“A private plane, which was supposed to take off from the airport in Donetsk did not have a valid permission. When officials went to check the papers, they were met with gunmen who proposed them money to allow the plane to take off without authorization,” spokesman of Ukrainian Border Police Sergei Astahov told AFP, adding that the offer was rejected.

“After the incident, two armored vehicles were seized near the plane and President Yanukovych Ukrainian had to come out of the plane and leave the airport,” he added.

The spokesman did not specify the destination of the aircraft, but according to the new chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament, Oleksandr Turchynov, Yanukovych allegedly tried to flee to Russia.

“He tried to take a flight to Russia, but that was prevented by the custom officers. He is currently hiding somewhere in the Donetsk region,” a pro-Russian region located in eastern Ukraine, where he originates from, said Turchynov.

Donetsk region is home to the Ukrainian president and a stronghold for his supporters.
