Video: Oil pulling, a traditional oral health therapy
Oil pulling or oil swishing is generally known as a traditional and ancient oral cleaning technique which is based on swishing oil into your mouth.
It aims at preserving the oral hygiene by removing the bacteria, dental plaque, etc, which adhere to the oil whose sticky properties are evident. Additionally, gingivitis, halitosis, gum disease and other infections are prevented. However, oil pulling is somehow controversial because it does not have enough scientific support as only a few studies confirmed its advantages.
Oil pulling: Process, timing, method?
People need to rinse their mouth using about one tablespoon of oil for 15–20 minutes before their breakfast, then spit it out and wash their teeth, gums, tongue.
Sunflower oil, coconut oil or olive oil appear to be mostly used. Some say that oil pulling should be first thing to do after waking up, before going on further rinsing your mouth with mouthwash and then brushing the teeth as you are supposed to do. In the video tutorial below you can see the steps you have to follow in order to successfully improve your dental hygiene with oil swishing.
