PUMA military helicopter crashed in Sibiu county, Romania

A military IAR-330 PUMA helicopter of the Romanian air-force crashed in the county of Sibiu near the settlement of Laslea, Friday morning. The chopper caught fire while airborne according to local media outlets.

The man was herding his sheep over one of the hills near the Stejaris village when he heard an explosion sounding and saw black smoke rising.

“There was dense fog and the visibility was pretty low. I heard the rumbling noise of a helicopter or plane, but I could not see much. Then a blast thundered and I ran with my colleague to where the noise came from. When we got near the wrecked chopper, we looked for survivors and we found a man who asked for water,” said the shepherd adding that the victim had a large extent of injuries on hands, body and legs, but was conscious.

About 15 meters away, there was the second victim who was groaning in pain.

“The second survivor was badly cut on his face and had burns everywhere. I’ve never come up against something like this across my entire life and I believe that I will never forget what I’ve seen today,” added the shepherd.
