Deniz Yücel, a 43-year-old correspondent with German newspaper Die Welt, was arrested by the Turkish authorities and accused of propaganda, misinformation and affiliation to terror organization.

Deniz Yücel, who has both Turkish and German citizenship, turned himself in to police early on Tuesday. According to Turkish law, he can be detained 14 days before being brought before a judge.

Currently, about 120 journalists are imprisoned in Turkey, according to the European Federation of Journalists. Ankara denies this figure and insists that nobody was imprisoned for writing news.
