Songwriter and guitarist Chuck Brown, creator of “Go-Go” style, a funky regional sound popular in Washington’s black music in 1980, died on Wednesday (May 16, 2012) at Baltimore (eastern U.S.), at 75 years old, have announced his manager and family.

Wednesday night, as news of his passing broke out, a numerous crowd rallied on Chuck Brown Way to pay tribute to a singer whose talent, exuberance and generosity of spirit will certainly be missed.

Called the “godfather of the Go-Go style”, Chuck Brown released in 1979 the song “Bustin Loose” (a No. 1 hit), which introduced the fashion of the R&B-related music in Washington. “Even in 2010, people want Go-Go because they grew with it,” Brown had told National Geographic two years ago.

Shortly before his death, the singer had been hospitalized with pneumonia, according to Washington Post.

Next Sunday a stunning solar eclipse will convert the classic disk of the sun into an annular shape covering regions from Asia to the United States

This ring of fire represents a special moment for the U.S. which saw the last similar event 18 years ago, back in 1994. The next annular eclipse is predicted to occur in 2023.

It would be recommended not to watch straightly the sun with your bare eyes, but try to use special glasses, solar filters or other optical devices to spot the eclipse if you are on the Western Coast of the North American Continent.

During next weekend’s annular solar eclipse, the moon is going to overlap the sun and obstruct about 94% of its radiance. Regarding the fact that the moon almost reaches its aphelion – the position along the orbit where it is farthest from Earth – it will look somehow smaller, instead will cover a larger area of the sun, revealing just a sharp bright ring of light escaping the edges.

An annular solar eclipse is seen as a partial eclipse. The moon will align in between the Earth and the Sun but compared to a total solar eclipse, this time the natural satellite’s observable diameter is smaller than sun’s disk, thus leaving room for an annulus (ring) of light.

A Frenchman athlete who lost his limbs (hands and feet) in an accident many years ago, managed to swim from Papua New Guinea to Indonesia. This was the first episode of an incredible challenge: Philippe Croizon wants to swim between five continents. (scroll down for photo)

Croizon, who is known as the first quadruple amputee to swim across the English Channel, uses prostheses and fins attached to them. He succeeded in swimming the 20 kilometers range between Papua New Guinea and Indonesia in seven and a half hours. He was accompanied by a swimmer specialized in long distance races, Arnaud Chassery and a local.

“It was very, very hard. It took us one and a half hours more than we expected because we had to swim against the current,” Croizon told the BBC.

Croizon lost his legs and hands 18 years ago, after an accident suffered while trying to fix a TV antenna on a roof. The man was electrocuted under 20,000 volts and almost certainly died if an electric shock would not have sparked a few moments after the first, bringing him back to life.

IBM and Hewlett-Packard keep the headlines of the media in Poland as the IT groups would allegedly be involved in a corruption case over the informatics data management of country’s public administration, informs the Polish daily Rzeczpospolita cited by AFP and Realitatea.net.

A spokesman for the anti-corruption police (CBA) Jacek Dobrzynski refused either to confirm or refute the information published by the Polish newspaper.

Rzeczpospolita published the information after CBA announced on Wednesday the arrest of a senior management official of the Polish National Police and two high-ranking members of the Polish IT company NetLine, – the three being accused of corruption acts such as bribery.

“NetLine’s presidents, who were arrested yesterday, had close ties with computer giants IBM and HP,” reveals the Polish newspaper.

Earlier this year, CBA arrested several senior officials and two former executives of computer companies who were charged with corruption, Dobrzynski said.

Representatives for IBM and HP in Poland confirmed the involvement of former employees in the scandal.
