Belgium’s two nuclear power plants were partially evacuated in the wave of the terror attacks that placed Brussels on a lockdown on Tuesday.
The Tihange nuclear power plant, located near the city of Liege and hosting three units, was partly evacuated, according to television station VTM.
Electrabel, the company operating the plants said that the non-essential personnel was evacuated at the request of authorities. The operational staff are still inside the plants where they keep the operations running.

According to latest reports, 34 people were killed and 130 injured in a twin attack on Zaventem airport and Maalbeek subway station.
Anne-Sophie Huge, a spokesperson for the Electrabel, said that all vehicles driving in and out of the power station are checked. “This is part of a broader plan to protect the plants,” explained Serge Dauby, a communications director at Electrabel.
