  • Columbia gunman opens fire inside Charleston church in South Carolina

    Nine people have been reportedly murdered at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston after a 21-year-old gunman from Columbia opened fire.

    The tragic incident is seen as hate crime as the victims, six women and three men, were gunned down because they were black.

    Police is currently on the trails of the suspect – Dylann Storm Roof, of Eastover- as a large hunting operation is taking place in several locations in the Midlands and across the state.

    “The suspect is in his early 20s and stands 5 feet, 9 inches tall. He has on a very distinctive sweatshirt as well as the vehicle, with a very distinctive license plate,” Charleston police chief said.
    According to a detailed description, Dylann Roof is a white guy, featuring a bowl cut haircut and wearing grey sweat shirt and blue jeans.

    When law enforcement units arrived at the crime scene, they found 8 deceased people inside the church. The death of a 9th person was subsequently declared at a Charleston hospital.

    The drama unfolded Wednesday evening during a prayer at about 9 p.m. after the gunman attended the religious meeting for nearly an hour. The church’s pastor state Sen. Clementa Pickney was among the victims who lost their lives in the incident.
    The local authorities made public some surveillance images showing Dylann Roof and his car.
