  • Hoax: Chinese miner found alive after being stranded for 17 year underground

News of a “Chinese miner found alive after spending 17 years underground” are currently circulating over internet, but they turned out to be false (scroll for video).

Various media outlets took over the news about a Chinese miner who survived a 17-year-long ordeal as he remained locked in a mine. The article was published by World News Daily Report, a news site known for releasing fake stories, informs Yahoo!

“A group of coal miners in the western Chinese province of Xinjiang, had an incredible surprise when the gallery they were excavating opened up on a section of an old mine, that was deserted 17 years ago following a quake that caused some large parts of the tunnels to collapse. While they were exploring the galleries, they came across Cheung Wai, a 59-year old survivor from the 1997 accident, obviously in a rather bad shape. He was quickly rushed to the hospital where a complete check of his physical and mental states is set to be carried out in the coming weeks”, the fake article reads.

The bogus article states that Cheung Wai remained trapped underground with 78 other miners, but he was the only survivor after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the region and caused the collapse of the wood resistance structure of the mine. The man was allegedly able to survive mainly because of some ventilation ducts which were still working.

World Daily News does not have a disclaimer stating that they publish false news , but in fact most of the stories are fake. Some other fake news published by the site are: “India: Gandhi’s garment was sold for 85 million dollars at auction”, “A former Pope warns of alien-related agenda of Vatican”, “USA: A blind man was cured of a rare form of herpes”, “Jordan: It seems that archaeologists have discovered the biblical city of Sodom” , “New DNA sample shows that Hitler was a Jew”, “Traces of flesh-eating bacteria found on Martian soil”, “Afghanistan: the first cricket pitch which is not mined was inaugurated” and so on.
