Fireman Jacob Gregoire told witnesses who rallied around the arrest spot: “I just wish to let you know that I am being arrested.”
The firefighter addressed the policeman: “It is incredible that you need to treat us that way. We just wanted to help you.” In response, the cop said the following: “I told you to remove your truck engine off the road and you said “No”. Therefore you’re arrested because of not complying with our request.”
Gregoire spent a few minutes on the back seat of the police car before being set free. He did not get any charges.
The head of the Chula Vista Fire Department, Dave Hanneman told media: “To arrest one of our workers while helping the accident victims is outrageous.” Moreover, Hanneman had only praising words for his firefighters because they did what they were trained for, namely to protect a crash site with the trucks. “California Highway Patrol will open an investigation. However, this incident shows the lack of communication between different services and departments.”
Two people were wounded in the car crash. One of them was taken to hospital.
Police and firefighters reached an agreement in the end. In a joint press conference , police officers and firefighters informed that this was nothing more than an “isolated incident and not representative for how our departments work usually together for our common purpose.”

Who is to blame?
