Eric Palante May was the victim of a serious accident at the 2007 Dakar when the rally was held on the African continent.
Palante is the 23th contestant who loses life in the overall 36 editions of the Dakar Rally.
Thursday seemed to be a deadly day as two other rally-related fatalities surfaced. Two people, some claiming to be Argentine journalists covering the Rally in their country, died after the terrain car they were in fell into a ravine.
The victims were identified on Friday as Agustin Ignacio Mina, 19, and Daniel Eduardo Ambrosio, 51.
