A Dutch journalist working as a war correspondent in Syria for the newspaper Nieuwe Revue managed to obtain a fake passport and ID bearing the image of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
Harald Doornbos‘ approach was intended at seeing how easy people could get such counterfeit documents which are widely used nowadays to smuggle migrants into Europe. Doornbos paid the amount of 750 Euros (825 dollars) for a passport which he received in just 40 hours.
The journalist explained that his aim was not to buy a fake passport with photograph of the Prime Minister, but since counterfeiters asked him to give customer’s name and photo, he decided to give a random name and Dutch official’s photo.
