A body has been retrieved off the Palos Verdes Peninsula close to the location where snorkeler Rebecca Weiss went missing last Saturday (scroll down for video report).
“A body has been found but we are not sure if it’s the missing diver,” said a spokesperson of the LA County Sheriff’s Department.
50-year-old Rebecca Weiss, left home for a free dive in a cove near Rancho Palos Verdes on 11 August 2012. She had gone alone and was due to return home by 17 hrs, said her husband, Alan Weiss, 60.
Her vehicle was found in a parking lot and her diving bag on the shore where she is thought to have entered the water, but her mobile phone and car keys are still missing, officials said.
After Mr. Weiss reported the disappearance of his wife, a large rescue operation has been deployed. However, after 4 days of search, divers, life guards and a Coast Guard helicopter failed to find a body.

Rebecca’s mother, Vilma Causey, is somehow puzzled because her daughter is known as an experienced swimmer who was diving in calm waters near a crowded beach.
“I went there yesterday because I wished to see the place where this happened, and it’s in a cove, it’s still water. There’s no big waves or anything like that. It is a very, very busy place, a big hotel and restaurant. The area is for tourists and everybody. There are a lot of people. If Rebecca was there, someone would have seen her,” Causey told ABC News.
Now the investigators’ attention turned to Alan Weiss, as diver’s mother says her daughter found out her husband had a girlfriend before she disappeared. Police officials have questioned the husband, but detectives do not consider him yet a suspect in his wife missing case.
