50 people have been reportedly killed in a dramatic shooting in a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, and a state of emergency has been announced, according to city’s mayor Buddy Dyer.
Some other 53 individuals were injured in the shooting at the Pulse club.
This appears to be the worst mass shooting in recent US history. Police see the incident as an act of terrorism.
Officials said the killings were likely to be ideologically motivated, though there was no information that the gunman was associated with a particular group.
It is thought that the gunman, a US citizen of Afghan descent from the Florida town of Port St Lucie, was not on a terrorism watch list, although he was being investigated for an unrelated crimes.
