11-year-old Romanian teenager Stefan Atirgoviţoaie won yesterday, the televised “Ti Lascio una Canzone” music contest aired on Italian state-run television Rai Uno (scroll down for video -Stefan Atirgovitoae Rai1 TV).

Practically Atirgovitoaie attracted the appreciation of public and also critics, who “reproached” him only one thing – his name which was hard to pronounce.

“Ti Lascio una Canzone” music show had its debut in 2008 and is basically a competition of the most beloved songs in the history of Italian light music. The songs are performed by children aged between 7 and 16. The competition features ten preliminary stages, and the young Romanian talent won this year two, with the songs “Profeta Non Saro” from Demis Roussos repertoire, and Sergio Endrigo’s “Canzone per te”.

In the finale Stefan Atirgovitoaie sang again “Profeta Non Saro'”, which received most of viewers votes. After the count of the votes and a harsh battle between jury and audience preferences, the Romanian teen topped the podium.

How was actually the winner chosen?
Ti Lascio una Canzone features two independent votes given by jury and viewers/audience. During last night show the jury designated the 7-year-old Coltella Beatrice from Rome as the finale winner but that was not the most relevant as the Grand Prize (big winner) is awarded by the public. Therefore in the finale there were selected 2 songs out of 10: one of the two songs was “La voce del silenzio” performed by Maryam Tancredi, 12, who was most voted by audience present in the show studio, and the other song “Profeta Non Saro”, performed by Stefan Atirgoviţoaie was mostly supported through televoting -the vote of the public sitting at home in front of the TVs. This situation engaged the two songs in a direct contest and the winning play was a decided after summing up the votes received from both studio and remote audience. In consequence Atargovitoaie was most preferred and his “Profeta Non Saro” received the first prize.

Stefan Atirgoviţoae is a student at National College of Art Octav Băncilă of Iaşi, Romania. Stefan is pretty well known to Italian audience, despite his early age. He has participated in various contests in Italy since 2008 and this year he claimed the prestigious “San Remo Junior” which thus was added to his impressive collection of national and foreign awards. Interestingly is the fact that Stefan Atirgoviţoaie does not study canto in college but piano.
