Death of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il has caused sorrow among citizens. In several cities in North Korea, people gathered around statues or portraits depicting the former leader to pay tribute and mourn.

North Korean media have published pictures of dozens, hundreds of people gathered in the squares, in front of the image of Kim Jong-il, crying and hitting the ground with their fists.

Kim Jong-il’s death was announced on state television, by an anchor who showed up with tears in her eyes. The presenter said that the president died due to hard work after serving country’s people the whole life.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il died Saturday morning at the age of 69, according to a statement published by North Korea’s state television. However the news broke out to outer world two days later.
