Playhouse Theater (Het Speelhuis) in Helmond was overwhelmed by a major fire outbreak on Thursday. According to the city mayor, the building can be regarded as “lost” as it was transformed in a pile of rubbish (scroll down for VIDEOS and pictures).
At least 20 homes, including the cube houses next to the theater, were evacuated. There were reported no victims in the incient.
The fire in the center of Helmond was finally brought under control Thursday evening at 10 p.m. The announcement was made by the fire department. However the firemen need to keep the area locked down for several more hours to prevent other incidents.
The library near the theater can be saved, said Mayor Fons Jacobs for the NOS News. However, it is feared that four to six houses next to the theater can be considered lost.
Mayor Jacobs could not say anything clear about what caused the fire: ”Even a short circuit might be an option,” said Jacobs.
No casualties
There were no victims in the fire incident at the Playhouse theatre in Helmond, it was said in a report at 7:30 p.m.
”We have no reason to believe that there were people inside the theatre during the blaze outbreak”, said a police spokesman.
“The fire started just after 6 p.m. There were at that moment people in the building, but they could get away in time.”
