Video: Space X Dragon Spaceship grounded as Falcon 9 rocket fails liftoff

A SpaceX Dragon spacecraft flight aimed at providing supplies to ISS was stranded on the ground on Saturday, May 19,2012 after a lift-off failure of the Falcon 9 rocket that led to an instant abortion of the mission (scroll down for video and photos).

The noisy sound made by Falcon 9 rocket’s 9 engines turned to silence in the last second before the scheduled blast-off, taking by surprise even NASA’s commentator: “3, 2, 1, 0 and lift-off,” commentator George Diller said but his voice became a little embarrassed as the rocket failed to leave the launch pad. “We’ve had a cutoff. Liftoff did not occur,” he added.

Following spacecraft’s inspection, specialists ruled that something went wrong with engine No. 5 which featured a faulty valve. SpaceX engineers are now working to replace the troubling valve and the earliest attempt to launch Dragon capsule to the ISS is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

Saturday’s abort was seen a little as a disappointment as this was the first launch attempt of a private spaceship in efforts by the private companies/sector to take over the job of delivering supplies and astronauts into outer space. So far only the countries’ governments carried out space missions, e.g. Russia, U.S. (NASA), Japan and Europe (ESA).
