An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 shook northern Italy this morning. Several office buildings were evacuated in Milan and other cities. 15 people have died so far, but the death toll could rise. A 4.7-magnitude aftershock occurred at around 11.30 and three more over 5-magnitude aftershocks followed by 14.00 hrs.

The 5.8 earthquake hit at around 9.00 a.m. in the northern Italy according to USGS. The quake had occurred at a depth of 9.6 km, and its epicenter was located near Medolla, Mirandola.

The tremor was felt in the whole northern area of the Italian peninsula. Dozens of shops were evacuated Bologna where the mobile networks collapsed. People were evacuated also in Milan, according to Il Corriere della Sera.

The shockwave strongly swept Emilia-Romagna, a region already affected by a previous quake which resulted in six dead and thousands homeless ten days ago.
