Starting as a gold favorite along with Russian and U.S. representatives, Izbasa did not disappoint and managed the best performance in the competition, winning the Olympic title on vault apparatus.

With an average of 15,191 points, Sandra Izbasa took first place in the final rankings, taking advantage of the American McKayla Maroney who fell on vault and finished second with 15,083 average points.

The bronze medal and third position on the podium was claimed by Russian gymnas Maria Paseka with 15,050.
