Actor Andy Whitfield dies of non-Hodgkin lymphoma at 36

Welsh actor and model Andy Whitfield known to everyone for his role in Starz TV series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” died in Sydney, Australia on Sunday September 11, 2011. The brave warrior is survived by his wife Vashti, two children, and a sister.

Whitfield passed away after battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma for 18 months.
“On a beautiful sunny Sydney spring morning, surrounded by his family, in the arms of his loving wife, our beautiful young warrior Andy Whitfield lost his 18 month battle with lymphoma cancer,” actor’s wife Vashti said in a statement. “He passed peacefully surrounded by love. Thank you to all his fans whose love and support have help carry him to this point. He will be remembered as the inspiring, courageous and gentle man, father and husband he was.”

Andy Whitfield was born in North Wales, UK on 17 July 1974 and relocated to Australia in 1999. He was anonymous until received the role of the legendary Thracian slave in “Spartacus”.
