A light aircraft crashed into a sheer cliff in high Superstition Mountains somewhere east of Phoenix and following the collision, the plane blew up. The moment of impact was recorded by webcam (scroll down for videos – crash moment and aftermath).

According to the authorities the airplane was carrying 6 people and all of them died in the accident. Among the dead there are the pilot and his 3 children who wished to join him for the Thanksgiving holiday.

A rescue mission was deployed in the area and the corpse of one child was found. The rescuers struggled on Thursday to discover also the bodies of the remaining 5 victims.

A search and rescue team was in the rugged Superstition Mountains looking for 3 missing teens Wednesday evening and spotted the explosion as the twin-engine plane struck the cliff, Sheriff Paul Babeu said. The rescuers found the teens, then climbed up the mountain struggling to get to the crash location.

In a statement it was revealed the names of the persons who were killed in the crash: 39-year-old pilot Shawn Perry, his two sons and his daughter (Morgan Perry, 9, Logan Perry, 8, and Luke Perry, 6). It appears that the kids lived with their mom in Gold Canyon community in Pinal County. Father Shawn Perry lived in Safford in southeastern Arizona where was running a small aviation business.

In the incident died also the second pilot Russell Hardy, 31, and 22-year-old mechanic Joseph Hardwick, 22.

The Rockwell AC69 airplane took off from Falcon Field in Mesa, Ariz., at 18:15 on Wednesday. The explosion at the southwest region of Superstition Mountains was announced about 15 minutes later at 18:31 p.m., Babeu said.
