During men’s 200-meter freestyle final Lochte fell inexplicably short in the last 50 meters of the swimming contest.

Compared to his 4×100 freestyle relay race, which brought a silver medal to the United States, Lochte was now surpassed by 3 athletes and arrived 4th.

The 200 meter final was claimed by French swimmer Yannick Agnel, who outpaced Lochte in the last heat of the 4×100.

Agnel earned the olympic gold in 1:43:14 after leading the last 50 meters of the race.

Ryan Lochte started the London Olympics by claiming the gold medal in the 400-meter individual medley.
