Dorian van Rijsselberghe claims Olympic sailing gold in London

Dutch sailor Dorian van Rijsselberghe is just one tinny step away from claiming the gold medal at London 2012. The 23-year-old windsurfer of Texel won the Olympic men’s sailing RS-X race 9. That was already his sixth victory in Weymouth (scroll down for results Race 9 and Overall).

Because of the points advantage, Van Rijsselberghe can not lose the leading position in the last two races, therefore he already secured the title.

Van Rijsselberghe has 10 points after nine races. The Briton Nick Dempsey and the German Toni Wilhelm have both gathered 33 points. This difference is too large to have to overcome the dutch athlete in the last two races.

However Dorian van Rijsselberghe still has to appear on Tuesday at the start of the last medal race, which gathers ten participants. Even a disqualification, for example by a false start, may not threaten his title. Van Rijsselberghe conquered all the world titles in 2011.
