Chelsea Ann Lyons, an American female player of the Romanian Basketball Club Teleorman was hospitalized with a broken leg at the local County Hospital on Sunday after falling from her apartment at the fourth floor of the building where she lives in the city of Alexandria. According to preliminary investigation, the athlete had attended a party and after arriving at home she fell from the fourth floor landing on the hood of a parked vehicle.

“She just merely tried a jump, because she was bored and anyway did this before. I was informed of the incident at 4 a.m. and I rushed to the hospital just to find out that she had only a bone fracture which was fixed with a splint, otherwise nothing serious. She does not have any behavior problems, she just practices various extreme sports. Before joining basketball she played also American football,” said CSBT Alexandria coach Calin Voicu for Romanian TV station B1.

“What she did was crazy, practically jeopardizing her life. She is performing some kind of extreme sports like jumping off obstacles, smaller buildings. According to our team sports rules she is not allowed to practice other sports that put her life and integrity at risk. Chelsea is a practitioner of extreme sports. She told us that she practiced a sport called parkour (i.e., a discipline that involves jumping, climbing and movement adaptation techniques to reach a certain point only by means of your own body). Apparently she does this with passion and wanted to try it again, especially since the buildings in Romania are lower than in the United States and the fourth floor had seemed very approachable to her. Ann Lyons is best scorer of our team, a very good athlete who is playing also American football, as I understood. A statement released by Teleorman County police reads: “A person fell from the 4th floor of a building. The victim is a 23-year-old American woman who is a member of the local basketball team. She was transported by ambulance to Teleorman County Hospital, her condition is stable”.
