Valentin Nicolau, Nemira’s owner and former head of the Romanian Television, writer and playwright, died on Tuesday at the age of 54, following a cardiac arrest, medical sources reported. His death was declared after 45 minutes of resuscitation efforts.

Nicolau was driving his car when he began to feel sick. The ambulance was called by another person and the victim was rushed to the Emergency Unit of the University Hospital in Bucharest, said doctor Florin Chirculescu.

Valentin Nicolau was a writer, owner of publishing group Nemira and former CEO of the Romanian Television Society, but as profession he was a geophysicist.

Nicolau was president and CEO of the state-run television (TVR) between 2002 and 2005. He was also a member of the former Board of Directors of TVR, which was dismissed on 10 December 2013 by the Parliament after the rejection of the SRTv activity report for 2012.

In 2013, he was again on the list of names nominated to take over the TVR leadership.
