Five killed in MS Thomson Majesty cruise ship accident in Canary Islands

Five people were killed when the lifeboat they were sitting in plunged into the water after getting loose from the cruise ship Majesty in the port of Santa Cruz de la Palma, in the Canary Islands.

MS Thomson Majesty is operated by UK-based Thomson Cruises, and the tragedy emerged during a safety drill.

The victims were part of the crew and originated from Indonesia (3), Philippines (1) and Ghana (1). The collapse of the boat left three others injured.

The lifeboat fell into the water from a height of twenty to thirty meters. Media reports claim that no passengers were involved in the accident.
