  • Klaus Iohannis reacts on Bogdan Gigina’s death case. Romanian President calls for urgent clarification of factors that killed traffic cop securing Gabriel Oprea’s motorcade

    Presidential Administration announced that the Romanian Head of State Klaus Iohannis follows closely and with “great attention” the case of a traffic police officer who died Tuesday evening in Bucharest while creating room for the motorcade of Deputy Prime-Minister and Minister of Interior Gabriel Oprea. Iohannis urges for “prompt elucidation” of all aspects of this case.

    “The president follows carefully the evolution of the case linked to the death of the traffic cop Bogdan Gigina who was accompanying Gabriel Oprea’s official motorcade. The president expects urgent clarification of all aspects of this incident by the authorized institutions”, reads the statement from the Presidential Administration.

    This is the first public reaction of the Romanian Presidency since the tragic accident on Tuesday night when 28-year-old Bogdan Cosmin Gigina crashed with his motorcycle in a series of holes which were dug down into the tarmac of Stirbei Voda boulevard as part of some construction works carried out by the company Distrigas.

    Rescue teams rushed to the crash site and took Gigina to the University Emergency Hospital Bucharest where he was pronounced dead due to multiple severe injuries.
