Stunning images show the moment when a group of gangsters try to set an explosive device on a vehicle in the Romanian city of Piatra Neamt (scroll down for video).
Residents who were evacuated from the dangerous area, could later return to their homes, as all restrictions were lifted Friday afternoon, nearly 12 hours after the area was sealed down, informs Romanian media agency Mediafax.
Prefect of Neamt Ilie Mitea said that after the explosive device was defused, restrictions in the area were lifted so that people can go back safely to their homes.
The prefect said that eight families living in the block, located on Nightingale (Privighetorii) Street, went to relatives or friends, though authorities proposed them hotel accommodation.
Furthermore many vehicles were taken away as a two thousand square meters area around the incident spot was locked down.
Police officers and gendarmes blocked the entrances in the neighboring buildings and instructed local residents to avoid the area, indicating them bypasses. People were warned also not to stand by the windows.
Bomb dismantling operation began at 10.30 a.m. and lasted about half an hour after. The operation was carried out by bomb disposal unit of SRI’s CTU Brigade.
Romanian Service of Information (SRI) spokesman Sorin Sava revealed that the C4 explosives had been attached under the Range Rover and could explode upon car’s ignition.

Explosives found on Bogdan Mararu’s car are equivalent to 5.5 kilograms of trinitrotoluene (TNT) and a possible blast would have spanned over a 350 meter radius, judicial source said.
On Friday, DIICOT prosecutors of Neamt Territorial Office along with officers of the judicial police BCCO Bacau and SCCO Neamt, caught three young members of a group specialized in violent offenses – murder, aggravated destruction and terrorism acts.
