  • Heavyweight Boxer Tyson Fury Tested Positive For Cocaine During Doping Test

    The world of boxing was left in shock at the news that Tyson Fury, a WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO heavyweight world champion tested positive for cocaine and now faces the risk of losing all his belts, according to ESPN.

    ESPN suspects that the real reason the 28-year-old English boxer postponed the rematch with Wladimir Klitschko is because he tested positive following a drug testing conducted by Voluntary Anti-Doping Association VADA on September 22.

    It is said that the drugs used were not improving the Fury’s sporting performance, however more results from his urine tests are awaited.

    Originally scheduled on July 9, the boxing bout against Klitschko failed to happen due to an injury suffered by Fury and was then rescheduled on October 29, but it’s unlikely to be disputed this time either. Fury’s staff claimed that the British boxer is experiencing some medical problems, without specifying their nature, that prevent him from climbing into the ring.

    The second clash between Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury in Manchester, was the most anticipated event in the field given the outcome of the first confrontation between the two last November, when Fury shocked the boxing world by defeating the Ukrainian champion who lost the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles after 11 and a half years.

    In mid-August, Klitschko threatened Fury with a lawsuit and accused him of trying to change the contractual terms of the rematch. As if these problems weren’t enough, Fury received on July 24 a doping suspension that was later lifted.

    Missouri Tigers defensive lineman Michael Sam, admitted publicly that he is gay in an interview for ESPN and The New York Times respectively.

    The first-team All-American player had reportedly confessed to his team colleagues that he was gay while on a before-season football work-out in 2013. Missouri’s players and trainer knew about Sam’s sexual orientation since last August.

    “I am an openly, proud gay man. I understand how big this is,” said Michael Sam in the ESPN “Outside the Lines”. “It’s a big deal. No one has done this before. And it’s kind of a nervous process, but I know what I want to be … I want to be a football player in the NFL.”

    Michael Sam is entitled for the 2014 NFL recruitment in May. If he is picked, then he would become the first ever openly gay NFL player.

    The 24-year-old decided that is better to discuss publicly, after figuring out 2 weeks ago at the Senior Bowl that lots of people knew something about his “secret”.
