Dr David Robinson, a quake scientist at Oxford University, revealed one cause this light might occur. “It is believed that shortly before an earthquake, there might be some accumulation of stress just prior to the event. People have thought about all types of mechanisms whereby this stress could get released as an electromagnetic de-excitation into the high atmosphere, which can lead to light appearance identical to the Northern Lights.” The ony issue here is the fact that nobody has ever explained why such things happen. “Anything that is generated by an unknown mechamism is odd,” he said.
