A Russian passenger plane of the low-cost airline Red Wings veered off runway and caught fire near a highway after making a crash landing at Moscow-Vnukovo airport on Saturday . Four people died in the crash (scroll down for video)

Of the twelve people on board Tupolev jet, four have died, according to RIA Novosti. Authorities confirmed that four other people were injured and are in critical condition. The jet was carrying no passengers on board, but only crew. Two people were found dead on the scene, while three others were taken to hospital in critical condition. One person died en route to hospital.

The captain, co-pilot, flight engineer and a flight attendant are among those who were killed in the accident. Russian authorities believe the crash was caused by a pilot error.

A driver managed to capture on tape the dramatic moment of impact of the Tupolev plane which violently hit the freeway near Vnukovo airport. The video shows how one wheel coming from landing gear of the wrecked aircraft, impacted a moving vehicle that is deflected into the median barrier.

Media in Russia said that fire trucks at Vnukovo were under maintenance when the tragedy struck, so the emergency crews appeared on the scene 50 minutes after the fire started.

“Only the crew were onboard. No Czech nationals were involved in the incident. Before take-off in Czech Republic, the company verified the aircraft’s systems which appeared to function normally,” revealed press service at Pardubice airport.

Russian Emergency Situations Ministry confirmed that the plane was forced to make an emergency landing. Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev urged the authorities to investigate the accident.
